New Reform Torah Commentary Class – 6:30–7:45 PM on Thursday, January 11. Class taught by Rabbi Kohn. TBJ has been invited to participate in a unique national piloting project. We will read, critique, and analyze the new language, then complete a survey on our experience with the new translation. We will look at sections from Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus.
Book Club - 12:30 PM on Thursday, January 18. Discussion of the book “Kantika” by Elizabeth Graver. Kantika (“song” in Latino) follows the joys and losses of Rebecca Cohen, feisty daughter of the Sephardic elite of early 20th-century Istanbul. When the Cohens lose their wealth and are forced to start anew, Rebecca fashions a life from what comes her way―a failed marriage, the need to earn a living, passion, pleasure and motherhood.
