JCC Stretch, Strengthen & Balance Class – 9:30 am on Tuesdays at the JCC with TBJ member and health coach Paula Martino. Perfect for all fitness levels, the class includes a warm-up, standing stretches, strength exercises (with optional light weights), balance training, and a relaxing cool-down. Classes are $5 per person.

Alden Solovy Program – 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 12. TBJ will host Alden Solovy, the Poet of the Reform Movement from Israel. Alden, a former American businessman who made aliyah a few years back, will set the table for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with Lofty Verses from the Highest of Holy Days, a reading from his newest book of poetry, inspiring inner reflection. Sisterhood Book Discussion – 12:30 pm on Thursday, September 19. Discussion of the book “The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store” by James McBride. In 1972, workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development and found a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived. Chona runs the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store. When the state came looking for a deaf boy to institutionalize him, it was Chona and Nate Timblin, the Black janitor at Moshe’s theater, who worked together to keep the boy safe.

Gift of Life Bone Marrow Swabbing Drive – Stem cell donors needed for the Gift of Life Marrow Registry. So far we have had 89 matches! Donors swab the inside of their cheeks and complete a registration form, must be 18 to 59 years old and in good health. Volunteers are also needed for a couple of hours to help find someone’s match. Contact Sherrill Murray-Lazarus to volunteer at [email protected]. The upcoming swabbing dates are below:
